About EJ -- Eddie Jackson

In 1964, I came to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida, for the first time, to complete the last two years of my college experience after graduating from Gibbs Junior College in St. Petersburg, Florida. Little did I know, that I would "fall in love" with this institution and it would become an integral part of my life forever.

Having been editor of the school newspaper at the Junior College, I became involved with the FAMUAN and Editor of the 1966 Rattler Yearbook. My love for writing and sports led to my first job upon graduation from FAMU---Sports Information Director.

This job required that I spend a lot of time with the football coach, the legendary Alonzo S. "Jake" Gaither. In addition to enhancing my love for sports, lessons learned from these experiences catapulted me to other positions during my 39-year tenure at the University including Director of Placement and Career Counseling, and Vice President for University Relations, before retiring in 2002.

Retirement has afforded me the opportunity to share information about the Rattlers from a different perspective.
